BUT HEY, LOOK AT THIS!!
Anyway, I will be featured in a competition at this site soon, and this time, I will be patient and wait for them to tell me when it starts. Shouldn't be long...
O-kaaaaaayyyyy...looks like I was a little mistaken about the UCreate thing...turns out the competition I pointed you to isn't the one I'm in, as it's meant to be for artists with a FINISHED book...li'l embarrassed by that... BUT HEY, LOOK AT THIS!! Heh, heh...that would be me throwing a smoke bomb to distract you while I escape this awkward situation...did it work?

Procopius journaling in the Roman Forum. This will probably be the last full page I show for awhile, as it is not my desire to give away too much before the book debuts, but I think this is a really nice showcase for a number of reasons. First, it is the first appearance in the book of Procopius of Caesarea (whose name you see written in his native Greek in Panel One). Second, it's such a glorious panorama of classical architecture mixed with wanton destruction, I couldn't avoid using it. Also, as mentioned in the last post, Amiculus is competing on www.ucreatecomics.com, a site hosted by a comic book development fund. The winning pitch will receive production funds from UCreate! All it takes is votes, and if you check out the upcoming competition beginning on October 25, you can see how your vote can help put Amiculus over the top! Progress on the preview book to this point is going great! More to come! Color by the very talented F. Caracuzzo. I'd like to start by giving another shout-out to Flavia Caracuzzo, the exceptionally talented colorist and daughter of Giancarlo Caracuzzo who has graced my book with her brilliant hues! Second, I'd like to tell you about a competition I have entered Amiculus in, and how you can support me with just your vote! UcreateComics is a comic book competition site backed by Kevin Smith and Neil Adams of DC fame where writers, artists, and fans pitch to win their share of the UcreateComics Million Dollar Fund and make their comic book dreams a reality. They accept concept pitches for comic book series, graphic novels, etc. Members of Ucreate vote to decide the winners, and the one with the most votes receives a comic book development deal for his pitch! The competition I have entered begins in roughly two weeks. If it succeeds, this would be an incredible boost to this project, and a way to bring Amiculus to fruition that much sooner. If you have liked what this project has offered thus far, I recommend checking out the site. (You do have to sign up as a member to vote, which I hope isn't a detraction.) I'll announce when Amiculus appears there. Thanks so much for your support! Other sites to check out re: Ucreate: http://www.ucreatecomicsevents.com/about/
End of the Siege of Rome, A.D. 538 The first pencil sketches for the preview, Amiculus: Ex Libris Amiculi have arrived! To the left is the sketch for Page 2, a tantalizing blur of action and carnage showing Byzantine mop-up operations at the Siege of Rome, A.D. 538. The historian Procopius writes an eye-witness account of this year-long siege in his history "The Gothic Wars," and it's really quite exciting. The Gothic attack on Hadrian's Mausoleum is one of my favorite parts: the desperate Byzantine defenders were forced to tear up the classical statues and sculptures from the top of the Mausoleum and use them as weapons, dropping and hurling the heavy marble onto the Goths below. (The aftermath of this battle is hinted at in Panel 2 of Page 2.) I will be making at least weekly postings of art as this progresses, trying not to give away too much, of course. These will also be appearing on the Gallery Page. You'll get a chance to watch this work develop into the kick-ass preview scheduled for print in February or March. Next week in Character Profiles: Anastasius, the keeper of Romulus's History. |
